It's a real pleasure to be your president this year. I've been involved in athletics for the past 13 years and love every part of it from track to xc! The past 2 years in UoN AC have been great fun, and provided me with memories and friends for life. I therefore hope to get as many people involved in this wonderful sport as possible; from absolute beginners to elite athletes, I aim to provide the club for you!
I joined middle distance running quite late at the age of 15 but became hooked (addicted) pretty much immediately! I would say the running achievements that I take the most pride in include getting Team Silver at National XC Champs 2016, running a huge personal best in the road 10k to go sub 40 mins (39:46). And more recently making the semi finals of the 1500m at both BUCS Indoors and Outdoors 2017, shaving 12 seconds off my PB in total from the previous year. I ran for the role of Vice Pres after a year of being social sec and realising how much I love this club and the people in it! As it's my final year here I intend to do the best job I can, which includes organising an unforgettable warm weather training trip in Easter. I also aim to be seen as someone who represents and supports all tiers of the club both recreational and performance. Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
I've been involved in athletics for over 13 years now, and in that time have tried almost every discipline, gradually tending towards the middle and long distance events. Having come from the role of XC captain last year, I felt becoming the treasurer would give me a greater chance to bring new opportunities to our members, whilst being able to share any experience I've acquired over the years. Having become an advocate of cross-training, my current focus is to have a strong and injury free cross-country season, hopefully helping our team to some more success before looking at refinding some form from a few years back when it comes to transitioning to track. I will also likely dabble in duathlon and multisport competition throughout the year.
I started running at the age of 12 for my local club Alnwick Harriers. I have always focused on running longer distances such as 10K's and half marathons. Some of my proudest moments as a runner include representing Northumberland at English Schools in 2013 and 2014 as well as finishing first junior in the Great North Run 2014. As General Secretary, next year I look forward to ordering the finest running kits in the whole of the United Kingdom as well as sulking at the fact that I am General Secretary.
I've been involved with athletics for a few years now training more specifically for the 400m. Going into my third year of university I decided I'd like to be track captain so that I could help people in this club just as they had for me. As track captain, I'll be able to help with training, organise people to go on competitions and sort out teams for BUCS. I am a Physics and Astronomy student and the highlight of my weeks are always the training sessions and athletics socials. I hope to create an enjoyable environment if you either want to be the next Usain Bolt or just looking for a fun way to keep fit.

Distance and Cross-Country Captain
I have been running competitively for many years now. I love cross country and track, specialising in 5km and 10km in the summer. I am in my third year, studying Nutrition and Dietetics and I've been involved in UoN athletics since first year. I've loved every minute of it! Coming from training at home (Tonbridge AC), I have found Nottingham to be so supportive and great for training and competing. There are so many training opportunities, whether you are of a a high standard or just starting out. We've got some great races planned, including BUCS, nationals, and local leagues.
Distance and Cross-Country Captain
I did cross country and distance running for school and Sale Harriers for around 4 years up until 6th form. I became hooked on running again when I started at uni thanks to this great club and all the wonderful people in it! I'm really looking forward to being a XC captain this year and am looking forward even more to seeing lots of new members who love running join us.
I began as a long distance athlete at the age of 8 and very quickly realised I was more suited to sprinting...(much to my dad's disappointment). From there I began to compete on a regular basis for my home club, Stockport Harriers AC, and I developed a very fond love of running, with the help of my inspirational coach, Cliff Oldham. I am studying environmental biology and just going into my second year. Athletics was responsible for supporting me through my first year of uni so I feel very strongly about giving something back to the club. From the training and competing to the socials it really has been a feature of many of the highlights of my university experience. Going forward I wish to integrate people and continue with the family feel and further the extent to which athletics can help people at this university. So, here's to a brilliant year ahead of UON AC.
I have been running for a club since I started secondary school in a variety of middle distance events, but my favourite is 800m. I also love really muddy cross countries (Sh*t happens get dirty!) as well as putting my trainers on and exploring when travelling. After a season off whilst doing a semester exchange to Nottingham Malaysia campus I'm looking forward to getting back into traning and competing. However there I did win the 10km charity race for the girls out of over 1000 people and got in a spot of trouble for going running in the jungle! (Oops) I'm doing a management degree and love people and organising events, so I'm super excited to build a tight athletics club family through engaging fortnightly socials and make our athletes time in UoN AC a unique and memorable part of their university experience. I made the switch to long-distance running in Junior College after years of playing Squash, and I don't regret my choice at all! I do XC, 5km and 10km, and have run for both my club back home in Singapore and my Army unit. I am a rising second-year Law student, with an eye in entering a Sports Law practice. I hope to use my past experiences in events organisation and my knowledge in Sports Law to deliver a solid Ed Prickett Relay and (hopefully) Varsity series. As for my own running goals, I will be working hard to break my PBs again in the upcoming year and to stay injury-free too!
Having only ran recreationally before, I joined UoN Athletics in September of my first year. Through the Athletics club I've met many great people (in both training and socials!), competed competitively for the first time in various XC and track events, and learned more about the sport than I previously knew existed. I'm now in my second year, looking forward to the year of training ahead and what my role on the committee can mean for the club.
Hi! My name's Alice and I'm in third year studying medicine. I have been running for my home club, Stockport Harriers, since I was seven and joined UoN athletics at the start of first year. I do XC, road, and the occasional track race but my favourite is definitely cross country, with BUCS XC being one of the highlights of my running year! The club is also great for the social side of running, and I have met lots of amazing people and new friends through the club. Welfare and Engagement
Having only started running when I came to university last September, I found UoN AC to be a super welcoming and great bunch of people to train, race and (of course) party with! I have also recently started guide-running with a fab blind runner, which has been and will continue to be a fantastic challenge and opportunity. My biggest achievement was finally running a sub-20 minute 5k earlier this year, knocking over 5 minutes off the time I ran in September! My biggest failure this year was drinking too much wine at pub golf. I'm really looking forward to spending my second year at university working on the Welfare and Engage schemes and can't wait to see some new faces at our training and Couch to 5k sessions!
