Ed Prickett Memorial Relays
Every year, the club holds its own relay event around the spectacular grounds of University Park Campus. The race takes place across 2 miles, with prizes for the winning team and fastest legs, and free parking and changing facilities. We run the race under full UKA regulations.
The relay races have been taking place since the 1960s, and are a staple in the AC calendar. The course is two miles in distance, with a 3x2 miles for the women's race and a 4x2 miles for the men's race. The relay follows a fast route around the University Park campus and along University Boulevard, before a sprint finish on the Downs. The relay races are sponsored by The Derby Runner.

Edward Prickett was the British under-20 5000m champion, and a star performer at the University of Nottingham AC. On 2 May 2004, whilst representing the University in the BUSA (now BUCS) Outdoor competition, Ed tragically lost his life when he was knocked down by a motor vehicle outside the Gateshead International Stadium. As a mark of respect for Ed, the annual relay races were renamed the Ed Prickett Memorial Relays. Ed was a truly remarkable person, whose enthusiasm and laughter reflected upon us all.
The relay races are run in support of the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund, which was set up to help young British athletes fulfil their potential. Ed Prickett highly benefited from this fund, and so we donate half of the profits from the event to the fund in his memory.
